A World of Delights Awaits Inland on Spanish Holidays

A World of Delights Awaits Inland on Spanish Holidays Travel guide Lonely Planet has been urging UK tourists to head inland and discover some amazing new experiences on their Spain holidays this year.

As new figures revealed a renewed love affair among Britons for Spain holidays, Lonely Planet travel editor Tom Hall said that there was a "world of choices" in Spain and Portugal that are just waiting to be discovered. That's if holidaymakers can tear themselves away from the delights of the beach and strike off inland.

"For example, if you're on the Costa in Spain, if you can go 10 miles inland, you will often find a totally different place, a totally different atmosphere, still very traditional and very Spanish," he explained. "If you are looking for a distinctive Spanish or Portuguese experience then you should try and do a little bit of exploring inland rather than just sticking to beaches."

Prices in Spain are at their lowest since 2008 according to a recent survey by Post Office Travel Money. UK holidaymakers have been taking full advantage of the fact by snapping up more cheap flights to the Canary Islands and the Spanish mainland than ever before.

Today, cheap fares carrier Monarch Airlines said that bookings for destinations in Spain and its islands were by far the most popular in a recent sale.

Cheap flights to Majorca and Tenerife remain the most popular of all, but there were also massive rises in bookings for cheap flights to Almeria, Ibiza and Fuerteventura. These resorts enjoyed increases in ticket sales of 1,100 per cent, 361 per cent and 233 per cent respectively.

Monarch Airlines spokesman Hugh Morgan commented: "The increased demand that we are seeing this year is phenomenal and proof that the Brits' love affair with all things Spanish continues."
