All Change for British Airways Flight Schedule
Ailing airline British Airways announced a reshuffle of its flight schedule to accommodate an increase in demand from the British public in cheap Turkey holidays.
Flights leaving from Heathrow airport to Istanbul will increase to three flights a day from 25 October 2009. Previously passengers only had a choice of two daily flights to the Turkish centre of culture and finance, but the extra seven flights a week should improve the service for customers.
In a reallocation of resources, Heathrow will increase its daily flights to Rome, taking the tally up to six. Meanwhile, Gatwick will reduce its capacity of Rome flights to a single daily flight to the Italian capital.
In other proposed route changes, BA announced that a number of routes that have been popular over the summer holidays will be cancelled over the winter season from October onwards. Flights to Krakow, Alicante, Malta and Palma from Palma will all be suspended for the duration of the winter season but will return next year for summer 2010.
As customers think about their holiday plans for 2010, BA had more disappointment for customers looking to book passage to the Balearics and the party island of Ibiza. The Gatwick route to Ibiza will be closed; BA advised that customers can either rebook an alternative route, or claim a refund for any flights already booked.
On the plus side, holidays in Spain will be made easier through BA’s increased capacity to Barcelona. Heathrow is set to benefit from seven flights a day to the Catalan capital.
