Bigger Hotel Discounts Encourage City Break Bookings
City breaks this autumn season could be top of British travellers’ wish lists for holidays abroad as hotel rates in some of Europe’s premier cities have dropped considerably.
Analysis from hotel.info suggests that out of the 210,000 hotels monitored worldwide, European cities offer some of the best discount holidays for this time of year.
With the decline of the tourism industry in Spain, it’s not surprising to see that city breaks to Madrid and Barcelona are among the best value for money for travellers looking for a bargain. Hotels in Madrid are offering discounts of up to 17 per cent from the prices tourists would have been paying last year for the same room.
Moscow prices have come down by more than 25 per cent for cheap hotels in the Russian capital, making it a brilliant getaway for an unusual weekend trip. Hotels in Prague and Amsterdam have also slashed prices by about one sixth since 2008 making them top holiday choices.
Copenhagen, Florence, Oslo and Istanbul also made the list of hot cities to visit according to hotel.info’s guide. London hotels, which have been extremely resilient during the economic downturn, did not make the list of the cheapest city break discounts.
The website’s managing director, Warini Munshi said: “There are currently great savings to be made, especially in city breaks. But intending travellers should hurry – our price barometer indicates that some destinations are already forecasting an upward trend, with hotel room rates starting to rise again in some cities.”
