Book Early For Hotels in Seville During Holy Week
When most people think of holidays in Spain, they think of the sunshine and sand of the Costa del Sol or the edgy streetlife of Barcelona – but for a unique experience there is much to recommend Seville’s Semana Santa celebrations.
The series of religious processions and outdoor events marking Holy Week is celebrated throughout most of Spain, but the country’s “third city” is renowned for the most impressive spectacles of all – as holy icons are reverentially paraded through the streets, accompanied by legions of hooded and robed “penitents” and brass bands.
Seville has 57 religious brotherhoods, all of which have their own floats and different coloured robes – and the entire population throws themselves wholeheartedly into the proceedings, spending entire days milling about in the streets to catch a glimpse of the dazzlingly ornate icons.
However, people wishing to experience Semana Santa need to book their hotels as soon as possible, warned LateRooms this week. The company pointed out that people from across the region pour into Seville between 28 March and 4 April to witness the spectacle, so accommodation is soon fully booked.
Holiday Autos also warned that car hire around the city will be maxed-out around this time, so anyone planning a trip to Seville – or Andalusia in general – during this time should also be wise and book their vehicle early.
The company’s managing director Stuart Nassos said: “Typically customers book car hire around four to six weeks before their holiday. This year, we suggest people book sooner to be safe, especially if they’re heading to Spain.”
