Cyber Monday Holiday Deals Boom in America
Shoppers have been grabbing the best deals today and over the weekend as Black Friday sales tumbled over into Cyber Monday today.
Black Friday is always held the day after Thanksgiving which is on the fourth Thursday of November. Black Friday is the unofficial start of the Christmas shopping season in the United States, and has been a tradition across America for 50 years.
With the advent of internet shopping and online deals, Cyber Monday has sprung up in recent years as the ideal time to do online shopping. This year, the National Retail Federation estimates some $41.2 billion (£24.9 billion) was spent by 195 million shoppers in the States over the Black Friday weekend.
Today on Cyber Monday, online shoppers have been grabbing cheap holiday deals taking advantage of a range of discount holidays and hotels on offer from various travel providers. Hotels.com slashed its rates on over 200 hotels offering 50 per cent discounts on rooms for travellers.
Customers looking to secure cheap flights to San Francisco, Phoenix, Denver and Salt Lake City from Southwest for travellers taking flights between now and 9 February 2010. Amtrak has also put up discount deals on New York city breaks as well as reducing fares to Chicago by up to 40 per cent.
Affina Hotels are offering similar deals on New York hotels and accommodation in Washington DC and Chicago. Cruisers can grab some exquisite last minute holidays, with MSC Cruises offering Caribbean holidays at heavily discounted rates on seven and 10 night cruises.
