Easter Weekend Provides Bumper Business for Monarch
Budget carrier Monarch Airlines revealed that an impressive 240,000 passengers took advantage of its cheap flights to Europe's sunshine hot spots this Easter weekend.
Cheap flights to Tenerife, Malaga and Faro were the three most popular choices for Britons taking advantage of the extended bank holiday period offered by the Easter break and this coming weekend's Royal Wedding, said Monarch's managing director Kevin George. "Demand for Monarch flights over the Easter period has been exceptional and has primarily been driven by the proximity of Easter with the extra bank holiday." he added.
"In response to this demand, an additional 31,000 low fare seats were added into the Easter flying programme at the beginning of the year, and these have also been snapped up by Monarch customers looking for a great value getaway."
For its part, rival cheap flights airline Jet2.com said this week that it has now placed on sale tickets for its summer schedule next year from Manchester Airport. The airline will be offering services to Alicante, Budapest, Barcelona, Malaga, Majorca, Prague, Tel Aviv and Tenerife.
Its Jet2holidays arm will also offer package holiday deals for many of these destinations next summer.
Manchester Airport managing director Andrew Harrison welcomed the announcement, saying: "Jet2.com is the first of our scheduled airlines to put the 2012 Summer season on sale which is great news for our passengers. With both the Olympic Games being held in the UK and an extra bank holiday next year, it's a busy time, so giving people the chance to plan ahead even if they haven't taken this year's holiday yet is a really positive move."
