Lonely Planet Makes Perfect Plans for Royal Wedding Bank Holiday
Travel guide Lonely Planet has suggested that Europe holidays are the perfect solution to people looking for short breaks to take advantage of next year's extra bank holiday.
The new holiday has been named as 29 April, to mark the royal wedding between Prince William and his long-term girlfriend Kate Middleton. This will bring the total number of public holidays between 22 April and 2 May to four.
With springtime holidays in mind, Lonely Planet travel editor Tom Hall commented: "It is a lovely time to be going to Europe, first and foremost – it will be warm but not too warm, it will be spring everywhere and you will have early summer temperatures."
As well as the large number of cheap flights to Europe that are available in the spring season, Mr Hall pointed out that Morocco, Turkey and Egypt holidays are also a good bet at that time of the year. Springtime temperatures at popular destinations such as Cairo, Istanbul and Marrakech are perfect for people who don't like strong heat.
UK holidaymakers looking for a more scorching time in the spring could perhaps "head to Goa, Cuba or Dubai or around the Caribbean – it is an absolutely lovely time to be in the Caribbean," Mr Hall added.
One European destination that is hoping to attract UK holidaymakers around the New Year period is the capital of Estonia, Tallinn. It has been preparing to assume the title of European Capital of Culture 2011 and celebrate its entry into the Eurozone.
The fun begins on New Year's Eve in Tallinn's Theatre Square, where there will be a live concert and a midnight fireworks display. There are over 7,000 cultural events planned in Tallinn throughout 2011.
