Monarch Announces More Cheap Flights to Tenerife
Low fares carrier Monarch Airlines has announced that it will be laying on additional cheap flights to Tenerife over the Easter period, due to increased levels of demand.
The Canary Islands have increased in popularity as a medium-haul holiday destination for sunseekers over the past few years, mainly due to a surge in the number of cheap flights to Tenerife and her sister islands Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, La Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro, Alegranza, La Graciosa and Montaña Clara.
Monarch has announced that on the second, ninth and sixteenth of next month, it will be operating extra cheap flights to Tenerife from London Gatwick airport, increasing the frequency of its Friday service from the hub to five a day.
Furthermore, Monarch’s Manchester-Tenerife service will receive a boost in the form of a larger aircraft, which will be able to increase capacity on the flights by 46 per cent. Monarch managing director Tim Jeans said that the extra flights and capacity were down to “continued demand for flights to Tenerife this Easter.”
He added: “The introduction of these additional services means an extra 3,000 seats will be available during this popular travel period.”
The high demand for cheap flights to Tenerife is apparent when one sees that the island has made the top three most-searched-for holiday destinations in Skyscanner’s February 2010 Top 50 Destinations Report.
The website said that Spain was still a very popular holiday destination, as could be seen from Malaga, Alicante and Tenerife all scooping the top three spots in its report. Researchers also found that 49 per cent of UK holidaymakers planned to take two or more trips abroad this year.
