New Delta Services to Miami and Boston from Heathrow
US carrier Delta Air Lines has announced that it plans to start offering direct cheap flights to Miami and Boston from London's Heathrow Airport.
Beginning on 27 March, Delta will start making use of the take-off and landing slots that it gained as part of the conditions imposed upon British Airways and Iberia for their recent merger. The airline already offers travellers seven cheap flights to the USA every day from Heathrow, so the news of daily Miami flights and a twice-daily service to Boston will be good news to regular transatlantic travellers.
Speaking recently at a London press conference, Delta senior vice-president for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Perry Cantarutti said that the new services made up part of the carrier's strategy for growth this year, building on a good performance in 2010.
"Heathrow is one of the world's top business airports and it is a key Delta strategy to increase our presence there," he added.
Mr Cantarutti went on to talk about the new Economy Comfort class, which will be introduced soon to most of Delta's cheap flights to the USA, and which he described as the "best fit" for the airline. The new upgraded economy seats will provide passengers with more reclining space and legroom and are due to be installed on more than 160 of Delta's Boeing 747, 757, 767, 777 and Airbus A330 aircraft throughout the year.
Delta's joint venture partner KLM introduced Economy Comfort seating on its transatlantic flights last year. This latest decision by the US airline will make travel with both airlines an even more comfortable experience.
