New Year Currency Bargains for UK Travellers
UK travellers considering cheap flights to Europe or the USA next year could be better off waiting until the last minute to change their currency, according to travel association ABTA and exchange service World First.
World First chief economist Jeremy Cook said that the euro and the US dollar are both predicted to go down in value against sterling. UK travellers are likely to get a far better deal if they bide their time before obtaining the cash for their USA and Europe holidays.
ABTA spokesman Sean Tipton stressed that "with the euro and the dollar predicted to weaken next year, it may be advisable to leave changing money until shortly before you travel". Mr Tipton did have a word of warning for UK holidaymakers, however, noting that "exchange rates are by their very nature unpredictable and it's always a bit of a lottery when you choose. But predictions are that in 2011, sterling will do much better against the dollar and the euro".
Shopping excursions to the US are a perennial favourite among Britons when the pound is riding high against the dollar. The boom over the past decade in cheap flights to New York in particular have been in large part due to the fantastic retail opportunities to be found in NYC and a favourable exchange rate only enhances the great value for money that this represents.
Low prices on electronic goods and designer labels are one of the biggest draws for British shoppers when it comes to picking flights to America from a wide variety of UK airports.
