Portugal Offers Top Value for Eating Out in 2011

Portugal Offers Top Value for Eating Out in 2011 British travellers considering booking cheap flights to Portugal this summer will be heartened to discover that they will get the best value in Europe when it comes to eating out.

The latest Family Holiday Report from Post Office Travel Money revealed that there has been a hefty 47 per cent fall in the price of restaurant meals on Portugal holidays since the previous July. This has brought the cost for a meal out for two adults and two children to a highly affordable £27.03.

Cyprus holidays have also become exceedingly good value for food lovers, with a 20 per cent drop in restaurant prices, and there has been a corresponding 17 per cent fall in prices for eating out in Greece. All of this, plus the ever-increasing strength of the pound means that Portugal, Cyprus and Greece holidays are all better value than ever.

Conversely, restaurant prices in France have increased by a third since last summer, the Post Office said, and the growing strength of the Turkish lira has meant that meals out on Turkey holidays have increased by an average 13 per cent. The Post Office advised anyone taking cheap flights to Turkey this summer to carefully budget, plan carefully and order their foreign currency in advance.

The report went on to identify eastern Europe as the best place for Britons to go if they are seeking cheap city breaks later this year. In a survey of 19 cities, based upon the price of cheap hotels, tourism services and typical tourist products, Riga, Prague and Budapest made up the top three, with Tallinn and Warsaw completing the top five.

The Post Office said that holidaymakers taking cheap flights to Riga would spend on average half as much as tourists taking equivalent holidays in New York, Paris and Amsterdam.
