Southampton Airport Wants Local Passengers to Choose Their Local Hub
A new advertising campaign this week is urging travellers in the south of England to take advantage of the hub's cheap flights to Europe and other destinations in the UK and Ireland.
The airport is hoping to attract more custom from the nearby regions of north Hampshire and the M3 corridor to London – with special attention being paid to the key towns of Reading, Woking, Basingstoke, Farnborough and Guildford. Southampton Airport wants holidaymakers based in these areas to realise that they don't have to trek into London to catch cheap flights to France, Spain, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Lapland.
From this month, the hub is running an It's My Airport promotion, talking up the benefits of flying from Southampton, such as quicker journey times, quieter passenger lounges, and a mere one minute's walk from the railway station to the terminal. The campaign will feature location-based case studies to demonstrate that flights from Southampton can be far more convenient for regional customers.
The airport's director of marketing and communications Jan Halliday commented: "There are around 7.6 million people living within 90 minutes of Southampton Airport and so this campaign aims to raise their awareness of our airport as a viable alternative to London, where they might usually head. With around 50 destinations and excellent road and rail links, heading south can often be a much quicker door-to-door experience with less stress."
The marketing campaign will feature adverts on local radio stations, as well as location-based online advertising and the use of social media network sites Facebook and Twitter.
