UK Holidaymakers Inspired by Italy

UK Holidaymakers Inspired by Italy A recent survey found that UK holidaymakers believe Italy to be the most inspiring destination for a holiday, thanks to its long and fascinating history, arts and culture, plus its delicious food.

When it comes to a holiday that ticks all the boxes for the British tourist, Italy seems to have it all, according to the poll for perfume manufacturer Ambi Pur. The second most inspiring destination was deemed to be the USA, which came in second just above Australia. France and Greece came in at fourth and fifth place.

However, in general, Europe seemed to be the place where British travellers were most likely to find their muse – being voted the most inspirational continent because of its wide range of different nations, cultures and landscapes. There is also the great advantage of being able to find a wide range of cheap flights to Europe online.

As you might expect, Ambi Pur was interested in finding out which senses were stimulated the most while on holiday. The poll found that 57 per cent considered a destination’s landscape to be the most inspiring factor during a visit, while 50 per cent said that sight was the most likely sense for triggering holiday memories.

Some 37 per cent said that they could be transported back to a holiday by a smell – around 25 per cent of people even admitted that the smell of the local landscape and cuisine would be the element of their visit that they would most like to bottle and relive.

Respondents also revealed what form the “inspiration” of their holiday had taken. Upon their return, some 37 per cent were inspired to redecorate their home, while 26 per cent were inspired to change jobs and 17 per cent were inspired to move house.
