easyJet Hails Passenger Boost for March 2011
Budget airline easyJet has revealed this week that more and more people are booking its cheap flights to Europe and beyond this year.
The carrier said that it flew nearly 12 per cent more passengers last month than it did in March 2010, with customer numbers reaching over 4.4 million, compared to 3.9 million the previous year. The passenger load factor – the percentage of flights that are fully booked – fell slightly from 87.5 per cent to 86.9 per cent last month, although easyJet pointed out that this was down to the major expansion in routes by the airline over the past year.
In total, the number of passengers taking cheap flights with easyJet in the 12 months up to March this year stood at 51.2 million. This was an 8.5 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2010 and an improved passenger load factor of 87.1 per cent, compared to 86.4 per cent.
The cheap flights carrier also celebrated another record performance earlier this week, when its 30 millionth passenger passed through Belfast International Airport. easyJet's commercial manager Ali Gayward was on hand to present Tanya Kilfeather with a celebratory bottle of bubbly and two free tickets on one of easyJet's cheap flights to a destination of her choice.
Ms Kilfeather said: "I have always found easyJet to be the best of the low-cost airlines, from convenient flight times to excellent customer service. It's great to win the free flights and I'll almost certainly use them in September for some Spanish sun via Alicante."
From Belfast Airport, easyJet passengers can take cheap flights to some 21 domestic and European destinations.
